The roots of Cornerstone Church began in the early 20th Century when a group of believers from Grundy, VA started having Bible studies and prayer meetings in Richlands. A new church was established and a small building was built just one block from where the church is located now. As time passed, the congregation grew and a new building was erected, opening on Easter Sunday 1942. Through the years, many were saved and the church continued to grow earning a prominent place in the community.
Early in the 1960s the church received a new pastor and under his leadership The First Baptist Church became one of the first Baptist churches in the Southern Baptist Convention to enter into the great revival of the Charismatic Renewal. The pastor brought men and women from around the world to minister. Some of the greatest ministers, from many different backgrounds of the 20th Century, came and shared with us what great things God was doing in the earth and had done for them.  One thing they all had in common was that they were all “Spirit filled".
Juanita and I became members in 1967 and soon discovered this church was different than any other we had attended. As we grew spiritually, we entered the ministry in 1971 as youth pastors and then senior pastors in 1975.
In 1978, the church entered into another great revival, overflowing the building and services were then moved to the church gymnasium.  Speakers from around the world began to come and lead us into the things that the Holy Spirit was doing.
In the early 1990s the church realized that a name change was needed to represent the ministry because it was no longer a Baptist church but a Charismatic church. Cornerstone Church became its new name.
After all these years, and now in the 21st Century, God continues to use this place to reach out to the nations.
We want to invite you to join with us and do more than visit but to worship God with us, The God of the Universe.
